Sonny Khoong is a Malaysian-born overseas Chinese, graduated from La Trobe University at the age of 21 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Finance. He commences his career in Internal Audit with a listed conglomerate, the Lion Group in Kuala Lumpur while concurrently qualified for CPA (Australia). Thereafter, discontented with his career as a Finance Manager in listed companies during the Asian Economic Crisis in 1997, he relocated to Taipei for work while taking Chinese lessons for a year. As fate would have it, he then found his way to Shanghai at the turn of the century.
As of today, Sonny has spent over 28 years in Greater China, specializing in new start-ups of foreign investment into China. He plays an advisory role as the Board Supervisor in several state-owned enterprises (SOE) of foreign governments and JVs in China. His clients are primarily in the Government-owned sector, listed companies and PE-funded firms on expansion mode. Meanwhile, since 2019, he has been bringing Chinese companies abroad to ASEAN countries for investments in various sectors which include factory-setups and company startups.

He worked for a startup incubator where he found his niche in serving the SME segment of foreign-direct investment venturing into China from 1999-2001. The next chapter of his life begins when after 3 failed attempts, he founded a successful CPA consulting practice in 2003. With Shanghai established as the Regional Headquarter, he then spearheaded the expansion of Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu offices, the clientele he has served numbering in the hundreds.
